Writing A Travel Blog About Backpacking in Australia

For anybody who would like to share their experiences with the friends/family at home a 'blog' is the perfect medium. A blog will provide you with your own space on the web to create and publish content for others to view and respond to by posting comments on your page.

A lot of backpackers in Australia use a blog like a personal online newspaper! You can write about your journey and post all your holiday pictures to share with people at each stage of your trip.

What is a blog? How can it be used?

A blog is your very own dedicated web page which you can update, publish and share with either selected individuals or the entire world. It's simply whatever you create it to be! You can publish your thoughts, photos, videos, audio recordings, links to other websites, anything you want.

Most people use their blogs like a diary or travel journal, updating it with all their favorite experiences and exchanging messages with their friends. When you regularly write a blog, all the people at home will share your journey with you, eagerly awaiting the next update.

You will be posting all your bright, colourful pictures for them to see and leave comments about, you will be telling them where you're staying, how great the beaches are, what amazing things you're doing next and everything else about your trip.

A Really Quick History about Blogs

The name 'blog' derives from the term 'web log'. The web log began back in 1997 when people started to post information on the internet for other people to read.

It was nothing like the vast super system it is today, it was only very basic (mainly text with the odd graphic) and there were only a few known web logs around at the time (less than 100).

As technology advanced and access to the internet became more widely available, the web log community grew in numbers and the 'blog' was officially born. It has become so popular that millions of people are now 'blogging' on their computers and mobile phones every single day.

How do I get my blog started?

To get started you will need to register with one of the free blogging hosts. TryWordpress.com, Blog.com, Aeonity.com for some of the best options. Then all you have to do is login, create your page and send the address to your friends.

It has been made really easy to publish your work and you can create a blog in minutes. The layout and features do vary depending which host you choose, but then who is to say how many you can create? All you have to do is find the one you like and go from there.
